Gwalia Deeps Gold Project
In 2007, Sedgman undertook refurbishment, modification and commissioning of an existing gold processing plant to treat ore from the underground mine known as Gwalia Deeps.
Sedgman was engaged to provide engineering design and procurement services for the existing gold process facility at the Gwalia gold mine in Leonora, Western Australia. St. Barbara expected the operation would produce at least 100,000 oz of gold a year and have a mine life extending until at least 2016. The plant is currently still operating as of 2021.
SCOPE OF WORKS
The project included the refurbishment, modification and commissioning of the decommissioned plant.
The scope of works included:
- Recommissioning of the three-stage crushing circuit including the installation of a dust collection system
- Refurbishment and recommissioning of the grinding circuit including the installation of a gravity circuit
- Refurbishment of the leaching and adsorption train
- Installation of a new elution circuit and gold room
- Upgrades to the site water and fire water services
- Borefield pumping and piping system.
- Services to the power station
- Site drainage, and collection and pumping systems to and from Harbour Lights and Tower Hill.
Sedgman also undertook procurement and construction of a paste fill plant and civil engineering of site structures and buildings.
The processing plant is a conventional carbon-in-pulp (CIP) circuit and has a nominal capacity of 1.2 Mt/a of hard rock and up to 1.8 Mt/a when softer material is blended.
OUTCOMES
The first gold pour from the upgraded facility occurred in October 2008 and a year later the first 100,000 oz milestone was reached.
