Water protection

We use water for a variety of activities that include meeting safety and environmental obligations such as dust suppression on construction projects, washing down and cleaning different types of equipment, and for construction works (e.g earthworks).

Minimising or reducing water use and increasing the use of recycled water delivers benefits for the environment and helps to reduce costs when water must be purchased.

Our project Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) integrate Soil and Water Management Sub-plans to address water use and conservation.

These EMPs recognise, and are adapted for, the unique conditions of each project and address factors such as the:

  • environmental values of the surrounding environment
  • potential water requirements and sources
  • regulatory commitments and landholder obligations that a particular project must meet.

Water Infrastructure upgrades progress across Tasmania

The TasWater Alliance, a partnership between TasWater, CPB Contractors, UGL and WSP Australia, is progressing with the delivery of water infrastructure upgrades across Tasmania. This includes the Undersized Network Reservoirs project in Launceston, part of the State’s Tamar Estuary River Health Action Plan. Located north of Launceston, the project focuses on modernising the Hillwood and Windermere reservoirs, which are crucial for supplying drinking water to communities east of the Tamar Valley.

Leighton Asia wins waterworks project in Singapore

Leighton Asia wins waterworks project in Singapore

CIMIC Group company Leighton Asia has been awarded a contract for the reconstruction of Choa Chu Kang Waterworks by PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency. Choa Chu Kang Waterworks is the second largest waterworks in Singapore and has a treatment capacity of 80 million gallons per day.

The scope of the contract includes mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation works, along with associated building services, civil and temporary works, services diversion, testing and commissioning and plant proving of the reconstructed plant.
